The
Sony HVR-A1U is an
entry level HDV camcorder that records high definition
video as well as DVCAM and DV video. When it is selected
to record in HDV it can record 60i, 30p or 24 frames per
second. Its widescreen chip captures over 1000 horizontal
lines and 1440 vertical lines no matter what you dial in
for record format. Sony has engineered the camera around a
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens for the latest in
anti-reflective coatings and new levels of HDTV-quality
resolving power in a compact design. This camera's a 10x
zoom lens has a maximum wide angle of 5.1 mm which will
show a 50° horizontal angle of view. The camera uses a
single three million pixel CMOS chip to capture images.
The use of a CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide
Semiconductor) chip allows the camera to capture amazing

The
JVC GY-HD100U is a 3-CCD camcorder that uses the HDV
codec to capture images in a 24-frame mode. As with
other HDV camcorders this unit can use DV consumer tape
and is capable of recording standard definition video as
well. Professional details like die-cast all-metal
construction and a fine grade Fujinon lens will not
disappoint experienced shooters. The camera is a
shoulder-mount design for the most stable hand-held
shooting positions.
 24-Frame
Cine-Style Capture and Recording - Twenty-four frames
per second progressive acquisition produces recorded
images that have a more polished, film-like appearance
than typical interlaced video cameras. Virtually all
high end digital cinematography cameras utilize the 24P
system. The GY-HD100U uses three newly developed
1/3-inch native high definition CCDs that produce a more
refined HD look without scaling. Since the native
24-frame material is recorded to tape, it is possible to
transfer the recordings to film without frame rate
conversion.
Time
code is recorded in the 24P mode, so recordings made
with the GY-HD100U can be edited with film based and
high end digital systems with ease.
Interchangeable Bayonet Lens - The GY-HD100U includes a
bayonet mount 16x Servo Fujinon lens. Operation is the
same as with all professional lenses with mechanical
control of focus, zoom and iris functions. The built-in
servo zoom and iris functions can also be used if
desired. JVC has developed and patented a focus assist
function that highlights detail in the viewfinder to aid
with critical detail focusing.
Extensive User-Adjustable Video Looks - Creating a true
cinematographic look involves more than just recording
at 24 frames per second. The camera's gamma, detail and
black levels can be adjusted to the user's preference.
When combined with the correct lens filters and lighting
techniques, film like performance can be obtained that's
tailored to the mood of the scene. There is even a skin
tone detection feature that automatically reduces the
amount of enhancement in facial areas so that your
subjects will not have a wrinkled, television-like
appearance. All custom settings can be stored on an
inexpensive SD memory card and transferred to another
camera if desired.
