Undersea exploration of shipwreck sites is rapidly growing
in frequency, popularity and sophistication with
improvements in technology and methodology. The potential
value of this kind of research is illustrated by
Anthropology Field Notes 6: Shipwrecks - with Odyssey Marine
Exploration, the latest video feature at the The Archaeology Channel (
In this series of
news-maker interviews, host Faith Haney of Central
Washington University (CWU) explores cultural
anthropology and archaeology. In this sixth episode,
taped in February 2008, Faith visits with shipwreck
exploration company Odyssey Marine Exploration, taking a
tour of their conservation lab and shipwreck exhibit at
the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Florida.
She examines three shipwreck sites, the SS Republic,
the China Blue, and the Dry Tortugas,
learning about the history and conservation of dozens of
artifacts.

Humor! - The Shovel Bum Saga
Field archaeologists
spend lots of their down time swapping stories and
sharing laughs about events and circumstances on
field projects. We're happy to share some of these
laughs with you in Shovel Bum Joins the Army,
the latest video feature at The
Archaeology Channel (http://www.archaeologychannel.org/).
The Shovel Bum saga moves into its third
installment, produced by ALI's Guy Prouty and
featuring Trent de Boer's drawings and real
voice. T-Bone and Betsy have forsaken Arkansas
and moved to Washington. T-Bone now runs survey
crews on the US Army's Yakima Training Center.
Defying unexploded ordnance, flat tires,
rattlesnakes, unfriendly MPs, suspicious
Canadian soldiers, closed roads, and tank
caravans, the crew finds some remarkable
prehistoric sites and lost Army gear while
enjoying the rugged landscape and winning
bowling trophies.
You are going to love this
site - especially if you thrive on the crass, disgusting and
the revolting. Its basically an online ad for
Agion, a company that makes
antimicrobial products. But it is great - for kids, for
budding scientists, for those who want to know how to make
their home just a bit more sanitary. Of course, if you just
want to laugh, you'll love it as well. It is the
“That’s Revolting!” site
(www.ThatsRevolting.com)
starring Florence Henderson, America’s favorite TV mom. Shot
on the original (but reconfigured) set of the classic ‘70’s
TV sitcom that made Henderson an American icon, “That’s
Revolting!” features Henderson as the mom in a whacked
family that’s inadvertently passing microbes to each other
in a series of over-the-top comedic videos. Florence also plays the perennially cheerful
host, who urges web viewers to ‘Spot the Germs’ before
family members get ill with everything from Flesh Eating
Bacteria to Salmonella. It’s fun for the whole family!

Clips from a BBC documentary explaining the
arguments from the 1920's until now as to whether electrons
are particles, waves or both.
It outlines Einstein's distaste at Heisenberg's uncertainty
principle and is a good starting point in realizing that the
universe is far, far stranger than can be imagined.
Also has some interesting footage showing the impact that
the pursuit of quantum physics has made to our world today
This

Digital laser imaging technology is not only very cool,
but it is also much faster and more accurate than hand
drawing for architectural features found at
archaeological sites. This fact is made obvious in
Mesa Verde: A CyArk Case Study, the latest video
feature at The Archaeology Channel
(http://www.archaeologychannel.org/).
The
complex World Heritage site of Mesa Verde is a good
challenge for CyArk, a Kacyra Family Foundation
project that is preserving the world's most valued
cultural heritage sites in three-dimensional digital
form. Ancestral Puebloans at Mesa Verde built cliff
dwellings in AD 1200-1300. A field team in 2005
visited one site there, Spruce Tree House, to test
CyArk's advanced documentation techniques. This
video shows how CyArk is preserving the site in
digital imagery through laser scanning and the most
accurate 3D models possible today.

Do you
believe in space aliens? Do you want to be in a space alien
music video? This is pretty darn cool and the video is
looking really good so far. You can help Roy Cooper finish
"Talking Circles".
According
to Roy, "It's a real strange subject... Aliens escape
from their own planet which they destroyed and head to
earth to warn us not to make the same mistakes as they
did. The way they communicate to us is through 'crop
circles' hence the title 'talking Circles'. I know that
many do not believe in aliens or 'crop circles' but that
does not stop the song from having a vital message for
us all Now I have finished the video but I am looking
for humanoid Aliens to add to the the video to finish it
off.
I
have set up a new website
www.talkingcircles.co.uk
explaining what I need and outlining all the scenes.
I do hope
that you can help"

Archaeology
is shedding new light on the special role played by the
Kanawha Valley of West Virginia in the early development

This film interprets
the historical archaeology at the Marmet Lock
Replacement Project in Kanawha County, West
Virginia. The excavations uncovered four salt
furnaces, John Reynolds' mansion, the cabin occupied
by his slaves, and the cemetery where he and several
family members were buried. The film uses
historical and industrial archaeology,
bioanthropology and historic documents to detail the
rise and fall of the Reynolds family and the local
salt industry, which helped spark the Industrial
Revolution in America.
